SIGHTFIRST II REPORT

TO: MD-2 COUNCIL CHAIRMAN,                        FROM: MULTI-NATIONAL
MD-2 GOVERNORS,                                               SIGHTFIRST II COORD. STATE
MD-2 VICE DISTRICT GOVERNORS,                   OF TEXAS

90 MILLION RAISED

Congratulations to those Districts and clubs who have helped achieved the above milestone. A couple of reasons, first 90 Million equals sight for 15 Million folk who otherwise would be unsighted, and the Association Sightfirst leaders have met President’s Ross challenge to raise a minimum of 90 million by the 90th convention.

However I would ask that you take a closer look at MD-2’s contribution before you become too excited. Some of you are blowing the socks of the overall goal of MD-2, unfortunately as one reads down the list, the numbers aren’t impressive after a few districts. Don’t get me wrong for every dollar raised is appreciated and needed however the load is much lighter when we all shoulder the responsibility of this Lion’s program:

Complete Report with statistics.

Again I thank each of you and your efforts; however there is a ton of work to do. I ask each of you to ensure that every Lion in Texas has the opportunity to be a part of this noble effort. Our new year brings challenges as they should. We have only thirteen months to achieve the mission of raising 200 million. That additional million as you are aware will bring funding for needed research and development.

Again thanks for all you do not just for Campaign Sightfirst II but all your endeavors to make this a better world for the unsighted and less fortunate.

IN LIONISM

Note. Club status and giving is as of 5/23/07

Dear District 2-E1 Coordinator,

I am pleased to announce that CSFII has raised a total of US$74,840,533 toward our minimum goal of US$150 million. You have personally been responsible for helping to raise US$17,232.00. Attached, please find detailed information regarding funds raised in your district as of March 27, 2007. You will be receiving this information monthly, and I encourage you to use this information to motivate all groups and clubs in your district to further success.

Much has been accomplished, but much work remains for us to reach our minimum goal of US$150 million. As Knights of the Blind, we must take this opportunity to raise funds that will help prevent blindness and change the world for the better.

Yours in Lionism,
Dr. Tae-Sup Lee

SightFirst II Makes Great Progress

Update 2006-02-02

You will be pleased to know that Campaign SightFirst II is making great progress. The campaign was launched a little more than six months ago at the international convention in Hong Kong, yet in that short time Lions worldwide have responded with great enthusiasm and commitment.

I am happy to report that more than 7,000 Lion leaders have been recruited for the campaign. CSFII has received thirty-one Lead Gifts, and more than 600 clubs have applied to be Model Clubs. To date, more than US$11.9 million has been raised for CSFII, even though intensive fund-raising by clubs is not scheduled to begin until 2006-2007 and continue through 2007-2008.

The US$150 million campaign (with a stretch goal of US$200 million) will allow Lions to continue and expand the remarkable work of SightFirst, which prevented serious vision loss for 24 million people and restored the sight of 4.6 million people through cataract surgery. As you may know, the funds donated by Lions in the original SightFirst campaign are nearly exhausted, and blindness remains a terrible threat primarily because of the aging and growth of the world’s population. The success of the campaign is absolutely critical; without Lions, millions will lose their sight unnecessarily.

The campaign’s donor recognition program will thank donors with a truly wonderful array of awards. The Helen Keller Knights of Sight will recognize gifts and pledges of individuals, as well as those from foundations, corporations and governments. The Visionary Society will recognize gifts and pledges from clubs. LCIF will begin to acknowledge our donors soon, and provide them with the proper recognition they so richly deserve.

Please support the campaign. At stake is the sight of millions. Lions have always risen to the occasion when faced with a great challenge. Our rapid progress in the campaign so far provides hope and confidence that our efforts will be a resounding success.

Yours in Lionism,

Dr. Tae Sup Lee
Past International President
International Chairperson of Campaign SightFirst II
